What
folks are saying about The Life Center...
I
am the daughter (age 59) of Louise (age 79). Mother has been attending
The Life Center since September, 2006. Before then Mother was working
at McDonald’s making biscuits. She worked 3 days a week, but then
had a heart attack resulting in two stints implanted. One week and a
day later she had a massive stroke. She was in the hospital at the time
of the stroke and they were able to work with her. She came home a couple
of weeks later, but was not able to stay by herself and I was working
full-time. My Aunt was here for a visit and was able to assist with
Mother’s care. Shortly thereafter, I had knee replacement and
my husband and I had to start taking care of Mother.
I had heard about The Life
Center from family, as my mother’s sister had gone there. They
talked very highly of it. When Mother started going to The Life Center
she was able to get around pretty good and could o a lot of things for
herself. She was using a cane. Eventually she had to go to a walker,
and now she is in a wheelchair. The people at The Life Center have been
wonderful to my Mother. It is a hard job staying with someone all the
time. If it had not been for The Life Center I don’t know what
we would have done. I have had several jobs and this has helped me to
be able to work and know that she is being taken care of.
My Mother has never complained
one time of not liking being at The Life Center. In fact, she sometimes
doesn’t feel food and I ask her if she wanted to stay home that
day and she always said no. She said she loves to go there and enjoys
the food, fun and fellowship there. I have never had one person working
there that didn’t seem truly caring. They are always helpful.
I told my husband that it should be called the Life SAVER. Because it
truly is a life saver for us.
I
am a granddaughter, age 37, caring for an 87 year old grandfather with
dementia. As a caregiver I am employed full-time as a nurse-working
five days a week. “Papa” moved in with me and my family
(I have 2 children and a VERY supportive husband) 3 ½ years ago
and began to decline mentally to the point he was unable to stay by
himself during the day while my husband and I worked.
Someone told me about The
Life Center. Papa started going 3 days a week, but now attends 5 days
a week. He absolutely loves the people at, as he calls it “The
Center.” I feel so fortunate that Lexington has a safe place for
my papa to go to while I work. The Life Center is truly a “lifesaver”.
The care he receives is “top-notch” and he has made so many
friends. Papa was in WW II and has many interesting stories to tell
about the war. If someone truly enjoys history, papa is the one to talk
with. Before his retirement, he and his wife (deceased) ran their own
family style restaurant for 25 years. Everyone in town ate at The Family
Kitchen.
Even though papa has dementia,
his life is not over. Keeping him active by going to The Life Center,
gives him something to look forward to. Papa has always been a “social
butterfly.” The Life Center merely helps him “spread his
wings”.
